The annual Karmapa Public Course at KIBI has begun

Yesterday morning the annual Karmapa Public Course began. With about 500 participants KIBI was vibrating with activity from early morning. His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa had decided to start the course yesterday because it was one of the four most important days of the year “The day of miracles” or Chotrul Duchen in Tibetan. On this day all actions are multiplied.
The morning program started with Khenpo Tsering Samdrup welcoming everybody. He continued explaining the history of KIBI and how Shamar Rinpoche was fulfilling the wish of the 16th Karmapa to create a place where Westerners could receive the precious teachings and benefit from the dharma taught here. After this session Professor Sempa Dorje taught “Four Mindfulness” which will continue later in the week.In the afternoon His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa bestowed a Chenrezig empowerment. He throughly explained what an empowerment is, what it means for different kind of practitioners, and what the benefits are especially if you intend to practice the meditation of Chenrezig. The day ended with butter lamp offerings in front of the gompa – the traditional way to celebrate Chotrul Duchen. We will be streaming Karmapa’s teachings of the Bodhisattva Way of Life at Karmapa’s Facebook page.
