Tenshug – LONG LIFE PRAYER

Today, on Guru Rinpoche day, KIBI administration and Sangha offered a long-life ceremony to His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje and his Yongzin, Prof. Sempa Dorje at Karmapa International Buddhist Institute, New Delhi. This offering, called Tenshug, brought the preceding five-day puja of Dolkar Yeshi Khorlo (Tsedub), which had been conducted from Jan. 31st to Feb. 4th, 2020, to an auspicious conclusion.

The most respected Maniwa Lama Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche had presided over the puja in the function of the Dorje Lopon (Vajra Master), guiding the KIBI residents and visiting Sanghas from Diwakar Buddhist Institute (Kalimpong) and Karma Dubgyud Choeling monastery (Ladakh) through the ritual, which was also joined by the KIBI lay community.

The Tenshug offering is a profound way of requesting the teacher to remain, i.e. to live long, for the benefit of all beings. It is marked by an elaborate display of devotion, expressed through prayers and making symbolic offerings, such as mandalas, offerings of body, speech, mind, and the eight symbols of auspiciousness. On a deeper level, the Tenshug is performed in order to pacify obstacles (especially to long life) and for accomplishing the fulfillment of all benevolent wishes of the teacher.

While being in the presence of the Gyalwa Karmapa and Prof. Sempa Dorje and making vast offerings, the devotees extended their heartfelt prayers for the well-being of all our precious teachers as well as of all beings. Through the goodness accumulated hereby, may all obstacles be pacified & long life accomplished!

On this auspicious day, KIBI New Book Release the Illuminating Sun: Commentary Elucidating the meaning of the King of Aspiration Prayers, the Aspiration for Noble Excellent Conduct. (Arya-bhadra-carya-pranidhana-raja)
