On February 19th KIBI will host an event for Losar, the Tibetan New Year.
KIBI will host an event for Losar, the Tibetan New Year, on February and 19th. Parting from previous years, it is the wish of His Holiness Gyalwa Karmapa that the event this year be a commemoration of the passing of Kunzig Sharmar Rinpoche, rather than a celebration. In the morning, there will be a Sang Puja (e.g. a smoke offering to numerous deities) to request favourable conditions for the New Year. The puja will be held from 9am – 11am in the Lakhang. In the afternoon, His Holiness will visit KIBI from 4pm – 6pm, and attendees will have the opportunity to offer katas (e.g. white silk scarves) to His Holiness and receive His blessings for the New Year. Following this, His Holiness will guide a Chenrezig practice. We will also sing ‘Calling the Guru From Afar’ and recite prayers, wishing for the swift reincarnation of Kunzig Sharmar Rinpoche. In conclusion, there will be a 1000 lamp offering, as a wish for the wellbeing and prosperity of all sentient beings for the coming year, and again, as a wish for the swift return of Rinpoche.
