The First Karmapa Düsum Khyenpa (1110-1193), who was one of the main disciples of Je Gampopa, founded the lineage of the Kagyu School. Ever since, the lineage has remained strong and successful mainly due to the presence of an unbroken reincarnation line of the founder, the successive Karmapas. All Karmapa incarnations made vast contributions to the societies as well as the well-being of all sentient beings.
In recent days, His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje (1924-1981) was the head of the entire Kagyu tradition. His successor, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye, lives in Delhi and carries on the previous Karmapa’s activities for the sake of all sentient beings.
Today, at KIBI we celebrated the 40th birthday of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje with a mandala offering, smoke puja, longevity aspiration prayers, the recitation of the Heart Sutra and Guru Yoga. Later-on, Ven. Sopon Tsultrim Namgyal la led the cake-cutting ceremony. As per His Holiness’ instruction, we then proceeded on to read the auspicious Prajnaparamita Sutra in 8,000 Lines, the Collection of Religious Works, and the Sutra of the Good Aeon. Finally, we conducted a life release for His Holiness’ longevity and good health.
May the pure light of your peerless wisdom shine undiminished, and may all sentient beings always be happy!
Karmapa Khyenno!!
