The Sangha of Karmapa International Buddhist Institute commemorates His Holiness the 16th Karmapa’s parinirvāṇa every year on November 5th — that being the day when he manifested Maha Parinirvāṇa at the American International Clinic in Zion, near Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1981.
His Holiness’ kudung (body) was then flown back to India, where the appropriate rites and cremation were conducted.
Today, our Sangha performed the Guru Yogas of the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa and the 14th Kunzig Shamarpa, accompanied by the lighting of butter lamps, and proceeded to perform the Mahakala puja.
Afterwards, we recited the auspicious Five Monlam for all sentient beings, as presently there are many battles going on around the world.
Besides, we would like to take the opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to Ven. Gonpo Rinpoche la for offering an altar, mandala, two sets of water offering bowls, eight large-sized butterlamp receptacles, and two flower lamps for KIBI’s main shrine. We appreciate beyond words your generous offerings!
