September 15, 2014 has become one of the most remarkable days for KIBI. Although the academic course of KIBI started in 2013, the BA course in Buddhist studies started this year, thanks to the great efforts of many parties. The opening ceremony of the course started with observing a minute of silence in commemoration of Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche’s parinirvana, followed by the explanation of his contribution to KIBI. Then the lamp lighting and ribbon cutting ceremony was performed cordially by HH Gyalwa Karmapa, Head of the Karma Kagyu lineage, together with the Mr. Ashok Kumar Gadia, the Chairman of Mewar University (MU). The ceremony was witnessed by Dr. Alka Agarwal, the Director of the Board of Studies of Mewar University and with many other honorable guests.
HH Gyalwa Karmapa addressed the audience with his opening speech. In the speech he mentioned the importance of Buddhist studies and to apply them into one’s life so that one’s inner wealth or quality can be developed.
Khenpo Mriti, the Administrator of the Institute introduced the faculty and details of the course. The ceremony was concluded with the speech of honorable chief guest, Mr. Ashok Kumar Gadia. He emphasized on the uniqueness of the Buddhist Studies course provided here in KIBI in collaboration with MU that one probably could not find at any other universities. He also emphasized that Mewar University and KIBI will work closely together for a long future, and that in coming days we will manage to provide post graduate, as well as PhD course in Buddhist studies to students from around the world.
