This week KIBIans are joining Tibetan Buddhists worldwide, especially in Nepal, India, Bhutan and Tibet in dedicating aspiration prayers for the welfare of all sentient beings and the protection of Buddha’s teachings. From 7 to 10 February, sangha are together clearing away obstacles to prepare for Losar on 11 February through the recitation of lineage and Mahakala prayers.
The Lhakhang is dressed with decoration for this occasion. The protector altars present offerings of medicine, rakta, tormas characteristic of inherited Karma Kagyu custom and a sculpture of Bernakchen.

The purpose of the Mahakala puja is to benefit all beings who have been our mothers in the past and the teachings, so Bernakchen consumes all that is negative, all adverse conditions, all who make obstacles for the Dharma and for those who practice a true path. Everything that is adverse, especially from the previous year, is eliminated.
These good wishes are then multiplied through the practice of the sangha and KIBIans each day.
On 11 February, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje will preside over the Chenresig Puja with 1000 lamp offering. On this day, the public are invited to offer kataks to H. H. Gyalwa Karmapa from 3 pm.
