Campus Daily life
KIBI is the main residence of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa Thaye Dorje. If you study at KIBI, you will have the chance to share your daily life with the Asian monks who live, teach and study here and are taking care of KIBI throughout the year. For that reason, we beseech you to dress modestly so that the monks will feel at ease meeting you.
Sadly, India has had many violent crimes of rape, abuse and murder of women, many which have been reported in the world news. For this reason, we recommend you to dress modestly if you go out to town.
Alcohol, smoking or any other drugs are forbidden on the KIBI campus. Please respect these rules.
Health and Hygiene
Please do not drink tap water! During the meals, you will find boiled, filtered water in the dining hall. For your personal needs, we recommend you to buy bottled water which can be done on campus.
On the KIBI campus, you will always get fresh food which is cooked hygienically.
Additionally, there are a few places just close to KIBI that offer tea and North Indian foods.
In case you need medical assistance, there are two hospitals next to KIBI.
Behind KIBI is the private hospital, Sitaram Bhartia. Another, bigger, hospital close by is the Rockland Hospital.
In general the doctors speak English. In both of these hospitals you will find pharmacies which are usually open 24 hours a day.
In Sitaram, KIBI students get a 10% discount. Don’t forget to bring your student ID card.
Dr. Dolkar is a highly recommended Tibetan doctor.
Opening hours: 9 am – 12 pm and 5 pm – 7 pm during summer seasons and 4.30 – 6.30 pm during winter seasons. Closed Sunday afternoons and Mondays.
